State health data shows there have been 1,235 new cases of the coronavirus in Oregon since Tuesday, July 6, and 15 COVID-19 deaths.
Four of the newly-reported deaths occurred in the early days of the pandemic, including three who died in April 2020. The Oregon Health Authority attributed the lag to the federal bureaucracy that puts the seal of approval on official causes of death.
While continuing to decline in Oregon, new coronavirus case counts are up in 41 states, according to The New York Times. A July 1 health authority model based on pre-reopening infection rates predicted a continuing drop in case counts through July 20, down to 115 new cases per day. But the state’s model did not take into account Gov. Kate Brown’s lifting of mask and social distancing mandates that have helped prevent spread of the disease since March 2020.

Who died: Oregon’s 2,783rd death connected to the coronavirus is a 49-year-old Jefferson County woman who tested positive June 15 and died July 3 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.
The 2,784th fatality is a 41-year-old Hood River County man who tested positive July 2 and died July 4. The state is still confirming where the man died.
Oregon’s 2,785th death is an 87-year-old Lane County man who tested positive June 14 and died July 3 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Riverbend.
The 2,786th fatality is a 52-year-old Josephine County man who tested positive June 18 and died July 5 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,787th death is a 64-year-old Marion County man who tested positive April 24 and died June 29 at Salem Hospital.
The 2,788th fatality is an 83-year-old Umatilla County woman who tested positive June 18 and died July 2 at Providence St. Mary Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,789th death is a 66-year-old Multnomah County man who tested positive June 22 and died July 6 at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
The 2,790th fatality is a 72-year-old Klamath County man who tested positive June 23 and died July 6 at Sky Lakes Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,791st death is a 93-year-old Crook County man who tested positive June 29 and died July 8 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.
The 2,792nd fatality is a 75-year-old Douglas County woman who tested positive June 16 and died July 7 at Mercy Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,793rd death is a 79-year-old Malheur County man who tested positive Oct. 24, 2020, and died Dec. 2, 2020, at St. Alphonsus Nampa Medical Center.
The 2,794th fatality is a 92-year-old Clackamas County woman who tested positive June 21 and died July 8 at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,795th death is an 84-year-old Multnomah County man who tested positive March 28, 2020, and died April 10, 2020. The state is still confirming where the man died.
The 2,796th fatality is an 85-year-old Washington County woman who became symptomatic April 2, 2020, after contact with a confirmed case, and died April 8, 2020, at her residence.
Oregon’s 2,797th death is an 85-year-old Washington County woman who became symptomatic March 21, 2020, after contact with a confirmed case and died April 3, 2020, at her residence.
Unless otherwise noted, all had underlying medical conditions or the state was still confirming whether they had underlying conditions.
Hospitalizations: 109 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, down 16 from July 6. That includes 29 people in intensive care, the same as July 6.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 210,729 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,797 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 4,513,400 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,229,939 people and partially vaccinating 200,828 people.
